Dr. Kiran BediMore than a decade over India Vision Foundation, after extensive research concluded that it was imperative to impart vocational training and life skills to the female population in prison.


The Weaving Behind Bars Project is an activity that equips female inmates with an entrepreneurial skill. Utilizing their time constructively while imprisoned, helping them gain financial independence after their release and finally restoring of their dignity and self confidence.


The aim of the project is also to give the female inmates a mode of self-expression. They put their hearts into weaving and the end product is breathtaking. Their work is displayed and sold in various exhibitions. Each inmate is paid a daily wage and their money is deposited into their internal bank account in Tihar Jail and are permitted to access their money whenever they desire.
